HP OmniBook Ultra Flip Laptop 14
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello.
Usually, to use (Shift + Home) or (Shift + End) with a mini keyboard or laptop keyboard, I've been using the (Fn + Shift + Left Arrow) or (Fn + Shift + Right Arrow) key combination.

However, in the case of an HP laptop, when I press (Fn + Shift), it works as the Function Key(F1~F12) Lock/Unlock.

That is, when I press the keys in the order of (Fn + Shift + Arrow), the (Shift + Home) or (Shift + End) function does not work.

Is there a way to solve this?

@swBaek, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Disable the Fn Lock in the BIOS:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • As the laptop starts, press the ESC or F10 key to enter the BIOS or UEFI settings (check your HP model for the specific key).
  • Look for a setting called Action Keys Mode or Fn Key Behavior.
    • If you see Action Keys Mode or similar, disable it. This will allow you to use the function keys (F1-F12) without needing the Fn key.
  • Save the changes and exit the BIOS.

This should allow you to use the Fn + Shift + Arrow key combination as it was intended (to simulate the Shift + Home or Shift + End functionality).

Check HP Software:

  • HP laptops often come with software like HP Support Assistant, which may allow you to adjust or remap keyboard functions. Check the software that came pre-installed to see if there are any key remapping options.

Remap Keys Using Third-Party Software:

  • If the BIOS method does not work or you prefer a software-based solution, you can use third-party tools to remap your keys.

Use an External Keyboard:

  • If none of the above solutions work and you frequently need the functionality of Shift + Home or Shift + End, you might want to use an external full-sized keyboard, which typically does not have this issue.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
