I am technology illiterate and neither my mouse nor keyboard that came with my new Model 24cr-0034 all-in-one computer works.  From reading and surfing the web I have determined that bluetooth is installed on this computer.  There are no other buttons on bottoms of mouse or keyboard other than to turn on the mouse.  They both have good batteries.  It may be as simple as me buying a USB receiver dongle.  Is it?  AND ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON WHAT TO BUY would be most appreciated.?

Hi @JIMBO-2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about the mouse and the keyboard issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When you turn on your computer, do you see any lights or indicators on the keyboard or mouse?
  • Did these devices come pre-packaged with your HP All-in-One, or were they purchased separately?
  • Have they ever worked, even briefly, since you set up the computer?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check for a USB receiver: Many HP wireless keyboard and mouse sets use a small USB dongle (often called a “nano receiver”) that plugs into the computer. If you don’t see one plugged in, it may still be in the box or attached inside the mouse’s battery compartment.
  2. Confirm Bluetooth pairing: If your set is Bluetooth-based, you’ll need to pair them manually. On your computer, go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device, then select Bluetooth and follow the prompts while the mouse is switched on.
  3. Try fresh batteries: Even though you mentioned the batteries are good, swapping them out with brand-new ones can rule out power issues.
  4. Test with another device: If possible, try connecting the mouse or keyboard to another computer or laptop. This helps confirm whether the issue is with the devices or the All-in-One itself.

Before buying, though, I’d like to confirm whether your keyboard and mouse are Bluetooth-only or designed for a USB receiver.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
