Hi @Rich1561,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can understand why seeing a report that shows the fan at 48% on a 3-year-old HP All-in-One would raise concerns, especially if you've been told that it may be difficult to fix. Before we jump to that conclusion, let's take a closer look at what the system is actually telling us.

A fan running at 48% is not necessarily a sign that anything is wrong. What matters is whether the fan is responding normally to the system's temperature and workload. For example:

  • Do you hear the fan running loudly even when the computer is idle?
  • Does the computer feel unusually warm to the touch?
  • Are you experiencing slow performance, freezing, or unexpected shutdowns?
  • Where are you seeing the 48% reading (HP software, BIOS, Task Manager, or another application)?

As a first step, I'd like you to run the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics Fan Test so we can determine whether the fan itself is functioning properly:

  1. Turn the computer off.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
  3. Select F2 - System Diagnostics.
  4. Open Component Tests and run the Fan Test if available.

Please let us know the results:

  • Does the test Pass or Fail?
  • Is a Failure ID displayed?
  • Do you notice excessive heat or fan noise during normal use?

Once we have that information, we can determine whether we're looking at normal fan behavior, a cooling issue, or something else that needs attention. We'll be happy to help you through the next steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
