I HAVE NO SOUND

HP Recommended

Hi @r2fuzzwart, Welcome back to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for providing the details. I'm here to assist you and guide you through the steps to resolve this issue.

Check Hardware Connections

Ensure Speakers are Properly Plugged In:

  • Make sure the speakers are securely plugged into the green audio jack on the back of your computer (for desktop setups).
  • Check if your speakers have power (if they require an external power source) and if the power is on.

Try a Different Audio Port: If your desktop has multiple audio output ports, try plugging the speakers into a different one.

Check Volume Levels

  • System Volume:
    • Click on the sound icon in the taskbar and ensure that the volume is not muted and is turned up.
  • Speaker Volume:
    • Some speakers have a separate volume control. Make sure the speaker's volume is turned up.

Set Default Audio Device

  • Right-click on the sound icon in the system tray and select Open Sound settings.
  • Under the Output section, ensure the correct audio device is selected (your new speakers).
    • If you see "Speakers" listed, make sure it's set as the default. If you don't, click on Manage sound devices and ensure the device is enabled.

Check Device Manager

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Scroll down to Sound, video and game controllers.
    • Right-click your audio device and click Update driver.
    • If there is an exclamation mark next to your audio device, it may indicate a problem with the driver.

Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers

  • Update Drivers:
    • In Device Manager, right-click on your audio device under Sound, video and game controllers and select Update Driver. Follow the prompts to check for updates.
  • Reinstall Drivers:
    • Right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device. Then, restart your PC. Windows should automatically reinstall the audio driver.
    • Alternatively, visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your specific Pavilion model.

Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
  • Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Playing Audio, then click Run the troubleshooter and follow the instructions.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

Test with Headphones

  • Plug in headphones to the same audio jack. If you get sound through the headphones but not the speakers, it could indicate a problem with the speakers or the audio output setting on your PC.

Check for External Audio Software

  • If you have third-party sound software installed (e.g., Realtek HD Audio Manager), open it and ensure everything is configured correctly.
  • Some software settings may be overriding system defaults, preventing sound from being routed properly.

Check for Conflicting Software or Updates

  • If the sound worked previously, check if any updates or new software installations could have changed the settings.
  • Uninstall any recently added software that might interfere with audio settings.

Test Audio on Another Device

  • To rule out the possibility of defective new speakers, test them by plugging them into another device like a phone or another computer. If they work fine there, the issue is with your PC.

Check for Physical Damage

  • Inspect your computer’s audio ports for any visible signs of physical damage. If you notice any bent pins or other issues, you might need a repair.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Sometimes audio can be disabled in BIOS/UEFI settings. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI by pressing the appropriate key (usually F10l) during boot.
  • Look for Audio or Onboard Devices settings and ensure that the Audio option is enabled.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
