@Rajeev1037, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Hotkey Functionality on HP Victus Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It seems you are experiencing issues with the functionality of the fn key combinations, specifically fn+f3 and alt+f4 on your HP Victus laptop. Let's address each of these concerns:
For fn+f3 (Brightness Control):
- Functionality: The fn+f3 hotkey is expected to decrease the screen brightness. Holding down the hotkey typically allows for incremental adjustment rather than just a single step.
- Resolution Steps:
- Driver Updates: Ensure that your keyboard and display drivers are up-to-date. You can do this by visiting the HP Support site and checking for driver updates specific to your laptop model.
- Power Settings: Check the power options and ensure that settings related to brightness control are properly configured:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options, and ensure that the brightness settings allow for adjustment.
- System Configuration: Verify that the function key (fn) behavior is set to require pressing it for function access. Some laptops have BIOS settings that define fn key behavior. To access BIOS settings, repeatedly press the Esc key right after turning on your laptop, then check if there are relevant settings for function keys.
- Hotkey Settings: Some systems have software that manages hotkeys—check if HP or Windows specifically has any settings related to hotkeys and adjust accordingly.
For alt+f4 (Window Closure Shortcut):
- Functionality: This key combination is used to close active windows.
- Resolution Steps:
- Verify Application Focus: Ensure that the application window you wish to close is active when you press alt+f4. If a non-responsive application or background window is selected, the function may not execute properly.
- Keyboard Layout and Language Settings: Sometimes changes in keyboard layout or language settings in Windows can interfere with shortcuts. Check your layout and language settings under Control Panel > Region and adjust if necessary.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
