Hi @wojto,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To upgrade the GPU and CPU in your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-0025nw without changing other components, there are a few considerations to keep in mind regarding compatibility with your current motherboard, power supply, and cooling.

GPU Upgrade:

  • Your current system likely uses a mid-range GPU. Here are a few options to consider based on your power supply and physical space in the case:
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or RTX 3060 Ti: These are great options for 1080p and 1440p gaming. They should fit most mid-sized gaming PC cases and offer substantial performance improvement over previous GPUs.
  • AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT: A good choice for those who prefer AMD’s performance, similar to the 3060 in performance.
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070: If your power supply is strong enough (around 650W+), this is a significant upgrade for higher 1440p or even 4K gaming.

CPU Upgrade:

  • Your current CPU is an AMD Ryzen processor (likely Ryzen 5 3400G or similar, depending on your exact configuration). You’ll need to check which Ryzen series your motherboard supports.
  • Ryzen 5000 Series (e.g., Ryzen 5 5600X or Ryzen 7 5800X): If your motherboard supports the AM4 socket and has the appropriate chipset (B450, B550, X570), this would provide a substantial performance boost, especially in gaming and multitasking.
  • Ryzen 7 3700X or Ryzen 5 3600: If you need to upgrade within a more budget-friendly range, these CPUs also offer excellent gaming and productivity performance.

Key Considerations:

  • Power Supply: Check your current PSU wattage. Upgrading to a high-end GPU like the RTX 3070 may require a PSU upgrade to 650W or more, depending on your overall build.
  • Physical Space: Ensure the new GPU fits in your case. The RTX 3070, for example, is quite large and may require more space than your current GPU.
  • Cooling: Ensure your case has enough airflow and cooling capacity for the upgraded components, especially for high-performance CPUs and GPUs.

If you're looking for a very specific GPU or CPU upgrade, it may help to share your current PSU wattage and any space restrictions inside your case.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @wojto,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To upgrade your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-0025nw, here’s a step-by-step guide for determining your motherboard's compatibility with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 processor and other components.

Check Motherboard Model and Supported Ryzen Series

Find the Motherboard Model:

  • Windows Command Prompt:
    • Press Win + R, type cmd, and hit Enter.
    • Type: wmic baseboard get product, manufacturer, version
    • This will show your motherboard model (e.g., HP proprietary or third-party OEM B450 chipset).
  • HP Support or Manual:
    • Look up your PC model’s specifications on HP’s website or check the physical board for labels.

Check Compatibility:

  • If your motherboard uses the B450 chipset (common in systems like yours), it may support Ryzen 5000 series CPUs after a BIOS update. Look up BIOS release notes for your motherboard or system.
  • Its compatibility might be limited if your motherboard uses a proprietary HP design.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Compatibility for Ryzen 5 5600

  • Socket Type: The Ryzen 5 5600 uses the AM4 socket, which your system likely already supports.
  • BIOS Update: Ensure your BIOS is updated to support Ryzen 5000 series:
    • Go to HP’s support site, download the latest BIOS for your motherboard, and follow the update instructions.

Advanced GPU Troubleshooting

Since your current PSU is 400W, upgrading to power-hungry GPUs like the RTX 3070 may necessitate upgrading your PSU.

Recommended GPUs (Based on Your PSU or Potential Upgrade):

  • 400W PSU:
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti / AMD RX 6500 XT (safe options with limited power draw).
  • Upgrade to 650W PSU:
    • NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti or AMD RX 6700 XT for significant performance gains.
    • NVIDIA RTX 3070 for future-proofing, but ensure your case can handle its size.

Steps to Check GPU Fit:

  • Measure your case’s interior space where the GPU will be mounted.
  • Compare this with the length and width of the GPU you’re planning to buy.
  • Ensure proper airflow and enough clearance from other components.

Cooling Considerations

  • Upgrading the CPU to Ryzen 5 5600 or a more powerful GPU may generate more heat.
  • If using the stock CPU cooler, consider upgrading to a better air or liquid cooler for optimal performance.

Note:

  • Double-check HP’s support site or documentation for motherboard and BIOS details.
  • Consider PSU upgrade to 650W or higher if going for high-performance GPUs like the RTX 3070.
  • Test new components post-upgrade for stability using benchmarking software like Cinebench (CPU) or 3DMark (GPU).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
