Hi @cmcyb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What is the exact file type you downloaded (for example, does it end with .exe, .msi, or something else)?
  • Did you download the McAfee installer directly from the official McAfee website, or from another source?
  • When you try to open the file, do you see any error message, or does it only redirect to the Microsoft Store?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Verify File Type
    • McAfee installers are usually .exe files. If the file is not an executable, Windows may not know how to open it.
    • Right‑click the file → Properties → check the file extension.
  2. Run as Administrator
    • Right‑click the installer file and select Run as administrator. This often resolves installation issues.
  3. Check Default App Settings
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps.
    • Ensure that .exe files are not incorrectly associated with the Microsoft Store.
  4. Windows Security Settings
    • Sometimes Windows blocks third‑party installers. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > App & browser control and check if SmartScreen is blocking the file.
  5. HP Support Assistant
  • Run HP Support Assistant to ensure your system is fully updated before installing security software.

I hope this helps.
