I am trying to down load an old video from an HP computer. The video is on HP Mediasmart. I do not see any options for downloading the video.

Hi @CVR34, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

HP MediaSmart was a suite of multimedia applications bundled with older HP computers, primarily running Windows 7 or earlier. The videos stored in MediaSmart are typically saved somewhere on your hard drive.

Try These Steps to Locate and Retrieve Your Video:

Check Default Save Locations

  • Open File Explorer (Win + E) and navigate to:
    • C:\Users\YourUsername\Videos
    • C:\Users\Public\Videos
    • C:\Users\YourUsername\My Videos (for older versions of Windows)
  • Look for any files related to your video.

Search for Video Files

  • Open File Explorer and search for common video file formats:
    • Type .mp4, .avi, .wmv, or .mov in the search bar.
    • If you remember the video’s name, try searching for it directly.

Check HP MediaSmart Folder

  • Open C:\Program Files\HP\HP MediaSmart or C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP MediaSmart.
  • Look for a folder containing media files.

Use MediaSmart’s Export Feature (If Available)

  • Open HP MediaSmart and play the video.
  • Look for any Save, Export, or Save As option.
  • If there's no direct option, try right-clicking on the video while it's playing to see if any export options appear.

Check the Windows Registry (Advanced Users)

  • HP MediaSmart may have saved the default directory in the registry.
  • Open Regedit (Win + R, type regedit, press Enter).
  • Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HP\HP MediaSmart
  • Look for file paths that indicate where media is stored.

Screen Recording as a Last Resort

  • If you cannot find the file but can still play it in MediaSmart, consider using a screen recording tool like OBS Studio or Windows’ built-in Xbox Game Bar (Win + G) to capture the video.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
