Can't use my mouse or keyboard after factory reset on HP RP version 2.10.1208 v02.10 rp5800 SERIES. Did a full wipe upon setup. At the country you reside in options choice selection, small blue box, the mouse and keyboard are dead and not working at all. Is there a way to check if the drives are disabled from setup. I even Replaced the USB cordless with a corded and nothing still. Please help 🙏

Hi @NeedURhelp101,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your keyboard and mouse not working at setup on pc!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems like you’re encountering an issue with your keyboard and mouse after a factory reset on your HP RP5800 series system. This can sometimes happen if the system doesn't properly detect or enable USB devices during the setup process, or if there’s a configuration issue. Let’s troubleshoot this step by step:

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup by pressing Esc, F2, or F10 (this can vary by model) right after powering on.
  • In BIOS, check if USB Legacy Support or USB Emulation is enabled. This ensures that USB devices (like your keyboard and mouse) are recognized by the system during boot.
    • If it’s disabled, enable it and save the changes.
    • Exit BIOS and see if your keyboard and mouse are working after reboot.

Try Safe Mode:

  • If you’re still stuck at the setup screen, try booting into Safe Mode to bypass certain drivers that might be interfering:
    • Turn off your PC, then turn it back on and immediately press F8 (or Shift + F8) to bring up the advanced boot options.
    • Select Safe Mode and check if the keyboard and mouse work there. If they do, you can try reinstalling drivers or adjusting settings from within Windows.

Check USB Ports:

  • Try plugging the keyboard and mouse into different USB ports on the PC (preferably directly into the rear USB ports on the system instead of hubs).
  • If your USB devices are connected via a hub or cordless, connect them directly to the PC to rule out any potential issues with the USB hub or wireless dongles.

Check for Driver Issues:

  • If your keyboard and mouse work in Safe Mode, it's likely a driver issue.
  • Go into Device Manager (you can access this by pressing Win + X and selecting Device Manager).
  • Look for any unknown or malfunctioning devices under Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Keyboards.
  • Right-click and choose Update Driver or Uninstall and then restart the computer to let Windows try to automatically reinstall the drivers.

System Recovery:

  • If you still can’t get your keyboard or mouse working after the factory reset, try performing a System Recovery or Reset:
    • You can boot into the Recovery Options by powering on the PC, and when you see the HP logo, press F11.
    • From the Recovery menu, choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC or System Restore (if available) to go back to a stable state.

External Keyboard or Mouse:

  • If the built-in USB drivers are not working at all, you can try an external PS/2 keyboard or mouse if the system has PS/2 ports, as these might bypass USB driver issues.

Let me know how it goes or if you need further guidance! 🙏
