@liyahhhhhhhhhhh, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

That’s definitely frustrating! If your laptop only charges when it’s off but not while it’s on, there could be a few possible causes.

First, check if the charging light turns on when the laptop is plugged in—if it doesn’t, try a different power outlet or adapter if available.

Next, inspect the charging port for any dust or debris that might be preventing a proper connection. If the charger works fine but the battery percentage still drops while the laptop is running, it could be due to high power consumption or a failing battery.

If the issue persists, updating the BIOS and battery drivers from HP’s official site might help. You may refer this guide to update the bios: HP Consumer Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows) | HP® Support

Refer to this guide for further troubleshooting: HP Notebook PCs - The battery doesn't charge or power the laptop | HP® Support

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
