Hi @Cuban333,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The message you’re seeing: “Non‑System Disk or Disk Error – Replace and strike any key when ready” means your HP computer cannot find a bootable operating system to start Windows. This is a startup/boot issue, not an app or Windows error.

Step 1: Remove external media

  1. Turn the computer OFF
  2. Remove all external devices
    • USB flash drives
    • External hard drives
    • SD/memory cards
  3. Turn the computer ON

If Windows loads, the issue is resolved.

Step 2: Check the boot order in BIOS

  1. Turn the computer ON
  2. Immediately tap Esc repeatedly
  3. Press F10 → BIOS Setup
  4. Open Boot Options
  5. Make sure the Internal Hard Drive / SSD is:
    • Listed
    • Set as the first boot device
  6. Press F10Yes to save and exit

Restart and test again.

Step 3: Use Boot Device Menu

  1. Turn the computer ON
  2. Press Esc
  3. Press F9 (Boot Device Options)
  4. Select:
    • Internal Hard Drive / NVMe / SSD
  5. Press Enter

If Windows starts, the boot order needs correcting (Step 2).

Step 4: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (important)

  1. Turn the computer ON
  2. Press Esc, then F2
  3. Choose System Tests
  4. Run the Storage / Hard Drive Test

Results:

  • Pass → Windows boot files may be corrupted
  • Fail / Drive not detected → storage hardware failure

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
