Hi @tracy221
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "ER 03" error on your HP printer typically indicates a paper jam or a paper feed issue, even though you’ve already checked for jams and replaced the ink cartridges. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue:
1. Double-check for Paper Jams
- Even if you don’t see any paper jams, it’s worth doing a thorough check. Open the paper tray, rear access panel, and any other panels that could give you access to the internal paper path.
- Look for any tiny pieces of paper or debris that might have been missed. Sometimes a small scrap of paper can cause this error.
2. Check the Paper Feed Rollers
- The paper feed rollers might be dirty or worn. Use a soft cloth dampened with water (not soaked) to gently clean the rollers that feed the paper into the printer.
- You can usually see these rollers by opening the front cover or back access panel (depending on your printer model). Clean them gently, making sure not to damage them.
3. Reset the Printer
- Sometimes a simple reset can resolve internal errors. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
- After waiting, plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the error clears.
4. Ensure Proper Paper Loading
- Make sure the paper is properly aligned and loaded in the tray. If the paper is too thick, curled, or misaligned, it might cause the printer to detect an issue with the paper feed, even if there’s no actual jam.
- Also, check that the paper is not overfilled. The paper stack should not exceed the tray’s paper level guide.
5. Inspect the Ink Cartridges and Printhead
- You mentioned replacing the ink cartridge, but it’s good to double-check that the cartridge is seated properly. Remove the cartridge, and then carefully reinsert it, ensuring it’s locked in place.
- If the printhead is accessible, check for any ink buildup or obstructions around the printhead area.
6. Update Printer Firmware
- Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, a firmware update can fix certain errors.
- You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP website.
I hope this helps.
