Subject: Technical Concern – Possible Device Intrusion, Unknown Linked Devices, and Unauthorised App Behaviour
Dear HP Support,
I am reaching out regarding my HP laptop, which is displaying some unusual behaviour that has raised serious concerns about potential unauthorised access or tampering.
Here is a summary of the key technical issues:
A PC device appears listed under "My Devices" even though I have never connected another computer to my HP laptop. I am unsure what this means and would appreciate clarification.
My earphones are listed as a saved device, but I haven’t used them with this laptop.
The Phone Link app was found running, and I do not recall ever setting this up or giving permission for my phone to be linked to the PC.
The app showed CPU usage and background activity, and I have since removed it, but would like to ensure there is no residual link or remote access pathway still active.
I’ve also experienced:
Unexpected system settings related to proxy connections
Suspicious Chrome behaviour (e.g. unconsented extension installation)
Ongoing concerns about data security
I would be grateful if HP could assist me by:
Reviewing the system remotely, if possible, to verify the device's integrity
Advising how to ensure no unknown devices are linked
Confirming whether my system has experienced remote access, screen sharing, or device linking without authorisation
Ensuring all HP-related apps and services are secure and functioning normally
I am especially keen to understand whether this may indicate unauthorised access, spyware, or a breach involving HP software or tools

Hi @indigogal
Unrecognized Devices Listed
Check Bluetooth and Network Connections:
- Make sure that no unfamiliar Bluetooth devices are paired with your laptop. Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices to review and remove unknown devices.
- Review your network settings to ensure no unauthorized devices are connected. Navigate to your router's admin page to view and manage connected devices.
Review Device Manager:
- Check the Device Manager to see if there are any unknown or unrecognized devices listed. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager to check for any irregularities.
Security and Software Check:
- Run a full system virus and malware scan using security software to ensure your system is not compromised.
- Ensure your operating system and all security software are up to date to protect against vulnerabilities.
HP Support Assistant:
- Use the HP Support Assistant for automated updates and troubleshooting. This can ensure all HP drivers and software are current and functioning correctly.
System Restore Point:
- Consider reverting your system to a previous state using System Restore if you recently noticed unusual behavior.
- Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection and use System Restore if necessary.
Addressing Unauthorized Access Concerns
Account Security:
- Change passwords for your Windows account and any associated services.
- Enable two-factor authentication for your accounts where possible.
By following these steps, you can work towards identifying and resolving any issues related to unrecognized devices or potential unauthorized access. If concerns remain, HP Support can offer further assistance.
