Headset Microphone Detection Issue

My headset microphone is having issues being detected. Whenever it is unmuted, the microphone is unable to be detected as an input device and says that it's not plugged in. Whenever I mute my headset microphone with a switch however, the microphone is detected and says that it is plugged in.
