For some odd reason the rubber part that sits against the back of my ear on my PLT headset has expanded and is now sitting about 2-3mm below the mini usb charging port?!

It has not slidden down as the rest sits perfect except it is a bit loose .. like the glue has come off underneath.

As I am not sure how a superglue would react with the interior electronics I do not dare to try and fix it that way.

Has it happen to anyone else? What does Plantronics say about this issue?

Had the same thing happen on my PLT headset last year. The rubber just kind of puffed out and loosened up on its own. I never glued it just kept using it and it stayed put enough. Never heard back from Plantronics when I asked about it either. Curious if anyone found a real fix.

Thank you so much for your response @PEB73

The rubber section around the rear/ear portion of the headset becoming puffed out, loose, or separated from the housing is a physical condition rather than a software or pairing issue. If the rubber has expanded and is no longer sitting flush with the headset, we would not recommend using superglue or another adhesive. Adhesives can migrate into the headset and potentially damage internal components, buttons, charging contacts, or the housing.

A few things are worth checking:

  • If the rubber is simply separating from the housing but is not torn, avoid stretching or pulling it further.
  • Do not apply heat in an attempt to shrink it back into place.
  • Keep the headset away from solvents, alcohol, or other chemicals that could further affect the rubber material.
  • If the material is actually swollen/puffed rather than simply detached, we would stop using the headset until it has been assessed. A swollen component inside a compact headset should not be compressed or glued down.

Unfortunately, without the exact Poly/Plantronics model, we cannot confirm whether that particular rubber component is available as a replacement part or whether the headset is considered serviceable.

Please provide the exact model number (for example, Voyager, Legend, Savi, etc.) and, if possible, a photo showing the expanded section. We can then determine whether this is a replaceable ear/neck component or whether the headset would need to be replaced through HP Poly support.

Have a great day!
