Voyager 5200 UC USB-A

hi People,

Does anyone else find the voyager 5200 headset useless outside or in a car? The noise cancelling is hopeless.

I bought one in July 2023 during COVID. The battery pack world not charge so it was replaced under warranty during the first month. Over the last year as I have been travelling more, lots of people have told me that the background noise, even just in my car is so bad, that I can't use it for calls. I am planning to throw it out and buy another brand if I can find one similar.

I have had Plantronics headsets like this (and it's predecessors) for 10 years, so I am unsure why this model has been so bad. (it is ok in a quiet office). So I am wondering if it is faulty or just worse quality than the voyager.

Hello JJ_7, welcome to the HP Poly community.
I am sorry to hear that you are facing this issue with the Poly Voyager 5200 UC USB-A.

Could you please follow a few troubleshooting steps mentioned below and let us know if the issue persists?
1. Could you please try it with a different mobile phone or a PC?
2. Could you please restore the headset settings to default on the Poly Lens application by connecting the headset to the PC? Once done please switch off and switch on the headset again to save the changes made.
3. Could you please confirm if the provided USB dongle is connected to the PC?
4. Could you please set the headset as default in the sound settings of the PC?

Regards,
Meghana

Thank you Meghana

I have tried the reset you mention and and assessing the outcome.

No, the problem is usually not when it is connected to the computer because I don't use the computer while I am driving because that is not safe, or when doing things outside. As I mentioned, the headset is ok when the office is quiet. However, it does pick up background noise when the office is noisy, so I don't use it then. I don't usually use the dongle even in the office because the computer sees the headset as active even when the headset is off and so doesn't connect to my wired headset. Also it stops my Bluetooth speaker from playing from my phone. There are some strange behaviours when the dongle is plugged in, so I often don't use it, but just connect by Bluetooth.

I only have one phone, a pixel 6, so can't try a different one.

I too have the same problem! I had the same model, but in a previous year and it was the perfect bluetooth. It broke on me, and now I have the same model that I purchased recently and everyone I speak to hears everything that is going on in the background! it is very frustrating. Was this new version made with cheaper parts? I would really love some advice as I tried the reset as mentioned above, and it did not work.

Thank you for the response JJ_7
Please forget all the paired devices on the mobile phone and on PC, then pair it once again and switch on the Bluetooth on PC or mobile phone only when required as the headset will get connected to PC automatically as PC is prioritized than mobile phone.
Background noise issue:
Please note that Voyager 5200 UC has a four-microphone noise-canceling design, please try disabling the sensors.
Disable sensors • You can disable your headset smart sensors through Poly Lens software under the Settings menu or in an idle state (not on a call or streaming music). Simultaneously press and hold the Call and Mute buttons for 5 seconds and a voice prompt will inform you of smart sensors status.

Meghana
