2012 Advanced Docking station doesn't appear to have any USB 3 ports

HP Recommended
Elitebook 8460p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently purchased an HP Advanced docking station (part number A7E36AA) which is supposed to have 4 USB 3.0 ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports. Details are here:

Using an external HDD (1TB WD Passport) with CrystalDiskMark I got almost 90MB/s read connected to a USB 3.0 port directly on the laptop (an Elitebook 8460p running W10 Pro).

However none of the USB ports on the docking station produce anything above 35MB/s which leads me to conclude that none of those ports are USB 3.0 capable and are in fact only USB 2.0.

Anybody else come across this? I did try searching for an actual manual for the dock in case there was firmware but came up empty.

Fairly unimpressed since I wanted to connect USB 3.0 devices to the docking station and leave them hooked up rather than having to stick them directly into the laptop, negating the convenience of the dock.

Also, in the interests of clarity, I'm aware that there are two versions of the Advanced Docking Station the model numbers are:

Old A7E38UT USB 2.0 only
New A7E36AA USB 2.0 & USB 3.0 according to HP

The part number for mine is the second one. More detailed information can be found here:

Using USBDView from Nirsoft shows clearly that the HDD is connecting as USB 3.0 when using the Super Speed USB ports on the Elitebook (pulling just under 900mA of power) but only 500mA when connected to the side ports of the dock that are supposed to be Super Speed USB 3,0.
