HP Support Assistant prompts me to install the ASMedia eXtensible Host Controler Driver v.1.16.38.1.

The installation fails and I can't install it.

Do I really need this driver?

Thanks!

Hello @dsimoes

Thats the chipset driver and 1.16.38.1 Rev.A /// Sept 12, 2016 is old drivers

You may install the latest one from the below link :

sp79343.exe  : 1.16.45.1 Rev.A  Mar 22, 2017

Description:

This package contains the ASMedia eXtensible Host Controller (xHCI) driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

Fix and enhancements:

- Fixes an issue on a system connected to a Thunderbolt dock which causes the system to display a black screen after the system resumes from sleep mode.
- Fixes an issue where a USB pen connected to the system using a Thunderbolt dock is not detected properly after the system resumes from sleep (S3) mode. This issue occurs when the pen is connected to the charging port of the Thunderbolt dock.
