After logging in, laptop says “welcome” and then immediately loops back to “logging out”

Product: HP EliteBook 840 G4 Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

When logging in to my HP Elitebook 840, it accepts password, says “welcome”, then immediately says “ logging out” and returns to lock screen. Please Help!
