My X2 has been acting up for the paat couple pf weeks. At first, the symptom was that when I turned it on with the keyboard attached, I wouldn't get a mouse pointer. If I disconnected the keyboard I'd see the auto rotate notice in the upper left of the screen and the computer switched to tablet mode. I'd then reattach the keyboard and it'd switch back to notebook mode and the mouse pointer would show up after a few seconds.
More recently, I noticed that when I did the keyboard disconnect, the auto rotate notification stopped showing up. The mouse pointer still appears when I connect the keyboard, but if I leave the keyboard disconnected and flip the unit to portrait mde the screen does not change to portrait. Its like there's a rotate lock on but I've not been able to find that in the settings.

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand the auto-rotation on your HP X2 isn't working,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Have you attempted to install the latest BIOS updates to resolve the issue?
(If not, Click here to find and install the same)
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
OPEN REGEDIT using the Win+R and type "Regedit",
GO TO HKLM/ SOFTWARE/ POLICIES/ MICROSOFT/ WINDOWS/ LOCATIONS AND SENSORS/
AND SET ALL TO 0 close editor and restart the computer.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.
