Hi,

For that machine, you will need to Contact HP Business support - they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

You can contact HP Business Support in your country via

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

or

https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

Just to note, don't try removing the rtc battery.  It won't remove the password, but it will reset the clock - as smc files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the smc will cause it to fail.

Regards,

I have the same problem. I phoned contact support, and i am told that they are no longer sending SMC.bin files, but replacing motherboard. Is that true? if so, it is very dissapointing.

Thanks

Hello

I agree, it's not a nice request.

if you are able to prove that the notebook is yours , it's not stolen to somebody else, HP have to provide the SMC.bin file to remove to password.

Years ago a got my notebook stolen. I had a BIOS password + I enabled bit locker. I made it more complicated for the thief to be able to use the laptop and read my data.

I think the thief did not call HP to remove the BIOS password, and in the mess he did I expect HP to not provide any SMC.bin files

HP please change your mind on this subject. Provide SMC.bin file to people able to prove they are the owner of the computer.

bye
