We have a ProBook 440 G9 that was purchased June 2023 and has all original hardware. It has been noted as having battery issues before but we are just now formally diagnosing and I'm stumped.

The battery isn't recognized and will show as an icon with a small X. I can unplug the device and it will use the battery but will not recognize it.

Troubleshooting done so far:

- All Windows updates done and laptop restarted multiple times

- HP Hardware Diagnostics won't work because it doesn't see any battery to test

- Device manager > uninstall battery. Shut down machine and removed battery and unplugged from AC power. Did a 60 second power purge to clear any residual power and then reconnected everything. Battery icon went back to normal and showed a healthy battery at 50% and charging as expected. Once I logged in, the system reverted back to not recognizing the battery.

Any ideas I have not tried yet?
