HI community,

I got my ProBook about a month and a half ago and I've noticed unusual behaviour with the battery and charging of it, so I thought it may be worth asking a question here before reaching out to HP to fix it.

When the battery goes low and I plug in the charger, it charges fairly quickly as it should to 80-90%, but then after that, especially above 95% it takes a lot of time, if not an hour, to charge it to 100%. Today is my second attempt to charge it to 100% by leaving it plugged in until it gets fully charged.

I haven't seen this kind of behaviour on other machines. Has anyone experienced this or similar issues, did you manage to resolve it and if yes, what did you do?

Thanks!

Hi Svetony.

This is not common charging behaviour for the g8s.

I'd start here:

HP Notebook PCs - Testing and calibrating the battery (Windows) https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2268927-1713329-16

Thanks TzortzisG, I'll give it a go and see if that helps.

Tests were successful, using two HP's tools, both passed. So the very last thing I can do is to calibrate battery following HP's instructions in that article.

Exactly. It does sound like a bad battery though.... HP will take care of it (as they should) if calibration fails....

So, I kept an eye on the battery and here's the summary - in a nutshell, the battery does charge up to 100%, however - after passing 97%, especially 99% it takes 20-30 minutes to reach 100%. I was also using BatteryMon app to monitor it (see the screenshot attached), so I'm not really sure what to do with this... Any advice?

Hi again Svetony!

It's nice of you to report back with your progress. Uncommon anyways.

Advice: Keep battery until close to end of warranty, then contact HP for brand new replacement. Unless of course something changes in the meantime...
