I’m going into university next year and have no idea what laptop to get. I’ve only ever used Apple products prior (MacBook air, specifically) and am unfamiliar with other brands.

I’m looking for a laptop that’s reliable, lightweight, fast, good battery life, user friendly (I’m really bad with tech) and can run Microsoft stuff well (one of the main reasons I’m switching to HP is because all my MacBooks overheat like crazy when I’m using stuff like excel LOL).

I’m not too sure if I want a touch screen ? Would be a nice feature tbh but not necessary.

Hello.

Earlier Macbooks without M1/M2/M3 (and so on) name were based on Intel CPU's that sometimes ran very hot. These new M class Macbooks run quite cool and have superior performance and battery life compared to those earlier Macs. If you are very much used to MacOS user interface, I would recommend just staying with Macs at this point.
