Hello, I have an Hp notebook 245 G9 14 inch and I wanted to install the f19 bios to update it and in the middle of the process the USB unplugged itself I went back and made a recovery USB I plugged it in and when I press Windows +B and turn on the pc I get the automatic bios recovery but after the reboot all I get is a black screen with 1 underscore then it reboots in a loop.

Can someone actually help me because this is my only device I don't even have a phone

Hi @mohamed12kha ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I am very sorry to hear about this critical issue with your HP 245 G9 14 inch Notebook PC. Losing power or having the USB unplugged during a BIOS update is the most dangerous scenario, and it has caused your system to enter a failed state—the black screen with the underscore and reboot loop.

Since the automatic recovery failed, and the Win+ B key combination is leading to a persistent loop, this indicates that the BIOS recovery partition on your hard drive is likely corrupted, and the attempted recovery from the USB is also failing to complete the flash process.

Because this is your only device, we need to focus on the most aggressive, manual recovery method that gives you the best chance of restoring the BIOS chip.

🚨 Critical Fix: Manual BIOS Recovery via Forced Flash

We need to force the computer to recognize and use the BIOS file on your recovery USB drive. This procedure is very specific for HP's newer consumer laptops.

Step 1: Prepare the Recovery USB (Re-verification)

You must ensure the recovery USB drive is prepared exactly as the HP utility intended.

  1. If possible (e.g., if you can borrow a working PC for a few minutes): Download the original F.19 BIOS file for the HP 245 G9 again.

  2. Use the HP BIOS Update Utility: Run the utility and select the option to "Create Recovery Media" onto your USB drive. This ensures the correct folder structure and file names are used for the recovery process.

  3. Drive Format: The USB drive must be formatted as FAT32.

Step 2: The Key Combination to Force BIOS Flash

The combination you used (Win+ B ) initiates the recovery, but sometimes you need a combination that forces a deeper read from the USB drive.

  1. Turn off the HP 245 G9 completely.

  2. Plug the AC Adapter into the wall and the laptop (ensure the power LED is lit).

  3. Plug the Recovery USB Drive into a reliable USB-A port (not USB-C).

  4. Press and hold the Windows logo key Win) and the key (or Win + B, try both!).

  5. While holding  Win +  V (or Win+ B ), press and hold the Power button for about 2-3 seconds, then release the Power button but continue holding the Win + V (or B) keys.

  6. Wait for the BIOS Update Screen to appear.

Step 3: Clear the CMOS (If Recovery Fails to Start)

If the computer still loops or gives you the black screen with the underscore, we need to clear the non-volatile memory (CMOS) that might be stuck on the failed F.19 instruction.

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug the AC adapter.

  2. Press and hold the Power Button for a full 30 to 45 seconds. This performs a Hard Reset/Power Drain and clears the electrical charge stored in the motherboard's capacitors, which often clears stubborn hardware errors.

  3. Reconnect the AC Adapter and try the Step 2 recovery key combination again.

CRITICAL WARNING: If all these recovery methods fail, the BIOS chip on the motherboard is too corrupted to recover itself. The laptop will require service board replacement by an HP technician. Since you cannot afford to lose this device, if the recovery fails, you must contact HP Support immediately.

Since you mentioned you only have this device, do you have access to the internet and another computer (e.g., at a library, friend's house, or internet café) where you can check the files on your recovery USB or download the BIOS again?

Please , do let me know if you need any other assistance, will be happy to assist you

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as well.
