Welcome to the HP Support Community @JohnnyG01
For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.
Just to note:
Do not try removing the RTC battery. It will not remove the password, but it may reset the clock - as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC will cause it to fail.

Hello and good day, many thanks for your response, to put you in the picture, i have had this machine for a couple of years, and don't ever remember setting a password. I recently brought it out of storage intending to give it to someone for their studies at school. but when i switched it on it's asking for the admin password. I downloaded the bin file from hp support (68PVLBIN) and put it on a usb stick, but after pressing esc at startup and F9 for boot it goes straight back to admin password. Regrettably i have already removed cmos battery and after an hour put it back but situation remains the same. I am pulling what little hair i have remaing out.. any ideas, thanx in advance.
regards
john
