Hi,
We bought 40+ HP EliteBook 840 G7 for a customer. Now one after one is not starting up anymore but shows just a black screen after de HP logo.
Safe mode is possible, normal startup isn't.
What I tried till now:
- uninstalled latest updates
- BIOS Update
- Disabled everything in the auto start
- deleted every display driver
- nothing to be found in the event viewer
Software installed, but never had any problems with these:
- Office365 Suite, Adobe Reader, 7-ZIP, VLC and an antivirus software (SentinelOne)
Resetting Windows works, but after some time it happened again.
Does anyone have another idea?
Thanks

Hi @hmrb
Based on your description, this is a software problem - Windows issue, Windows update or drivers. Drivers could be for hardware, could be software ones (like security ones).
Windows is not a living organism, so things don't change on their own (still no AI in it).
So this means that something happens which causes the problem - software installation, software update, driver update, Windows update and whatever happens causes some problem or incompatibility.
- Use Windows 10 2004 or 20H2 only
- If you use Windows 10 Pro , use group policies (gpedit.msc) to limit what gets installed, you can stop driver installation from Windows Updates. stop automatic updates, install updates at once only.
- Do not use 3rd security apps on at least one-two of the PCs to see how it goes.
- Use HP Image Assistant to download/install all HP drivers, software, ESU, etc and do it once right after Windows is installed.
- Activate Windows System Restore- and often create restore points and before any change, so that you are able to revert back.
- and like that... you will be able to find what causes the issue
Hope this helps you.
