Subject: HP ProBook 455 G9 – BootDevice Not Found (3F0) Error

Dear HP Technical Support,

I am writing to report a serious issue with my HP ProBook 455 G9 laptop.

The laptop is currently unable to start Windows. When I power it on, it displays the following error message:

“BootDevice Not Found”
“Please install an operating system on your hard disk.”
“Hard Disk – (3F0)”

As a result, I am unable to access the operating system or use the laptop normally.

I would like HP Technical Support to investigate this issue and determine whether it is caused by a failure of the internal SSD/storage device, corrupted boot files, BIOS/UEFI configuration, or another hardware problem.

If the SSD or another component has failed, I request that HP assess the laptop for warranty repair or replacement, if applicable.

Please provide instructions for the next diagnostic steps and advise me on how I can arrange a repair or service appointment.

I would appreciate your prompt assistance, as the laptop is currently unusable.

Kind regards,

[SIMON NETO]

Hi @Neto9

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your HP ProBook 455 G9 is displaying the “BootDevice Not Found – Hard Disk (3F0)” error and is unable to boot into Windows. This error generally indicates that the system is not detecting a bootable drive or cannot find the operating system on the installed storage device.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Shut down the computer.
  • Remove the AC adapter and battery.
  • Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then turn the computer back on.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart the computer and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to access the BIOS Setup.
  • Ensure that the boot order is set correctly, with your hard drive set as the primary boot device.
  • Look for options like Legacy Boot or UEFI Boot and adjust these settings according to your configuration.

Run Hardware Diagnostics: Click Here

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool to test the hard drive.
  • Restart the computer and repeatedly press F2 to enter the HP Diagnostics screen.
  • Select Component Tests and choose Hard Drive. Run the quick and extensive tests for more accurate results.

Reseat the Hard Drive:

  • Power down the laptop and unplug all cables.
  • Remove the back cover of the notebook.
  • Check the hard drive connections, ensuring they're secure.
  • If necessary, remove the hard drive and reinsert it into its slot.

Repair Boot Sector:

  • Boot from a Windows installation media or recovery disk.
  • Access the Command Prompt via Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.
  • Use the command bootrec /fixmbr  followed by bootrec /fixboot  and bootrec /rebuildbcd.

Consider Hard Drive Replacement:

  • If the diagnostics report a failure or if the issue persists, the hard drive might be faulty.
  • Consider replacing the hard drive with a new one and reinstalling the system.

Take care and have an amazing day!
