Hi All,
For the second time in two years my HP EliteBook 820 G4 has a big bulge appearing next to/under the track pad. Last year it was bigger than a golf ball by the time support sent me a box to send it back to them. I couldn't believe the case was not replaced and looked fine after they repaired the notebook. However it was a real pain setting up and using my old HP as a parachute and the amount time time putting everything back when the notebook was returned.
A year goes by and my laptop is growing again. HP support sent another box and I'm sure they will replace the battery again, so it should work fine.
Warranty is out on this laptop in 6 months, what am I to do in 12 months when this happens again?
Anyone else experience this problem and was there a long term solution?
Regards,
Jay

Batteries of this type are used in lots of devices manufactured by different companies, including notebooks and phones.
It is generally agreed battery technology could be better, of course, but here we are.
I suspect your question is not serious - the trouble you describe has not yet found you: "What about next time?"
The answer:
- If the battery fails, it needs to be replaced with a compatible battery.
- If the battery becomes bloated, the battery must be removed from the computer to prevent further damage and a compatible battery (via part number) should be installed in the computer.
For those reading...
- If the battery needs to be replaced, find the How-to in your computer's Service Guide.
- The Service Guide is generally found in Category Manuals in your computer's website support pages.
Example - this system...
HP EliteBook 820 G4 Notebook PC HP EliteBook 828 G4 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide
Part number and Replacement procedure is on Page 35
Description Spare part number
3-cell, 49 WHr, 4.25 Ah Li-ion battery 854109-850
The process to change out the battery is not actually very difficult.
You do need a solid and flat work surface, a good light, the correct screw driver, and awareness of working in a safe environment (read about this in Chapter 4).
