- Can I replace the AC-7260 WiFi adapter in a ZBook G2?

I have a ZBook G2 with an Intel AC-7260 WiFi adapter. It is constantly disconnecting from my WiFi, when other devices in the same room have no problems. I have seen numerous posts from people across the internet who have the same problem with the AC-7260 adapter.
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the AC-7260 adapter with a different one? Or does only the AC-7260 work with the ZBook G2?

Hi:
That model card was the only AC card that was offered in the model series according to chapter 3 of the service manual.

However, I came across this discussion where another forum member successfully installed the Intel 9260 AC wifi card in a Zbook15 G2.

The reason the Intel 9560 didn't work is because that is a CNVI card and will only work in certain notebooks with newer processors and chipsets.
What Are the Intel® Integrated Connectivity (CNVi) and Companion...
So, at least you know you can replace the 7260 AC card with a considerably newer one.

Thank you so much for the information! It looks like Intel also released a 9461 and 9462 WiFi adapters at the same time as the 9260 and 9560, but those are only 1x1, and the 9260 is 2x2, so I will definitely go for the 9260.
EDIT: Actually I may try the 8265 instead. I was thinking I might downgrade the laptop to Windows 7, and I just came across a discussion that the 9260 only works on Windows 10.

You're very welcome.
The 9461 and 9462 Wi-Fi adapters would definitely not work because they are CNVI cards,
None of the cards on that Intel link I posted would work in your zBook.
Yes, you would have to install an older model Wi-Fi adapter such as the 8265 if you want to install W7.
The specs for the Intel 9260 indicate support for W10, W11, Linux and Chrome.

What I recommend you do if you want the Intel 8265AC would be to buy one of the two listed in chapter 3 of the zBook 15 G4 service manual.
If your notebook does not have an Intel vPro label on it, I would get the non-vPro model.
Intel Dual band wireless-AC 8265 802.11AC 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.2 Combo Adaptor (non-vPro) 910264-852
Intel Dual band wireless-AC 8265 802.11AC 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.2 Combo Adaptor (vPro) 918855-852
Search by the HP part number, not the model of the Wi-Fi card.

My ZBook is a non-vPro model. I only found one 910264-852 listing and the description mentions Lenovo. Do you have any idea if a Lenovo adapter will also work with the ZBook G2?

Those do have the non-vPro part number in the title, although when I click on each listing, their description says "01AX704 Lenovo Wireless Board 81B5000KUS" with no mention of HP.

Hi, @forumreader
Either one should work.
I googled the 851594-001 SPS number and it shows it being advertised for HP notebooks.
