Hello, I have a HP EliteBook X360 1040 G8 that I have mounted on a stand in tablet position. I have it setup so I can easily reach around in hit the power button. Unfortunately, when the laptop is folded the power button does nothing.
Please advise. I can't use my laptop because of this flaw.

Hello.
The power button not working is intentional. The User Guide for your laptop has the following information about this:
"The keyboard, including the function keys and power key (select products only), is disabled in stand, tent, and tablet modes. To enable the keyboard, including the power key, change to the clamshell mode."
The only ways to overcome this is to either configure power-on via keyboard/mouse (if available on BIOS - probably not) or scheduled power-on (BIOS setting). Outside of these, you can use a HP Dock (USB-C or Thunderbolt) which has a power button. There may be a Power on when AC detected setting in BIOS so if your laptop is in a power outlet with an on/off switch, you could use it as a power button of sorts.
If you are using a USB keyboard or mouse and you're willing to settle only for waking the computer up from sleep mode (not from total power off or hibernation), you can probably configure them in Windows Device Manager to wake the computer up.
