I have attempted unsuccessfully to get an answer from the HP experts on this forum to a very simple question.

Does the Bluetooth radio inside the computer shut down during sleep, or does the setting not to allow it to be shut down to save power prevent this?  Nobody has directly answered this critical question, instead presenting boilerplate solutions that would be time-consuming and disruptive - without knowing if they would have any chance of working when lacking an answer to this critical question.

I was prepared to follow one suggestion provided, and that was to try a different BT mouse in an effort to confirm that the Microsoft 3600 BT mouse itself is or is not the culprit.

However, before doing that I took a further look at the Device Manager settings and realized the problem is in fact the HP computer - specifically the Intel Wireless Bluetooth adapter included in this computer.  First a mea culpa, as I had previously attached a screen capture related to the touchpad, not the BT mouse.

Upon careful study, the scrren captures below show the problem - namely that notwithstanding the available Intel Wireless Bluetooth adapter's power management setting to not allow the computer to turn it off to save power, the setting to allow this device to wake the computer is actually greyed out

This is critical because, if you think about it, it would not be the mouse itself waking the computer, but rather the BT adapter as a result of mouse activity - and, also, the BT mouse does not have a power management setting as it is an independent device and not part of the computer.

Therefore, even if one does not allow the computer to shut down the adapter, one cannot allow it to wake the computer, at least not with the latest driver available from HP.  I did ensure that I had the latest driver from HP, namely 20.20.0.5, as shown below.

There are a number of newer drivers available directly from Intel, namely 20.30.0, 20.40.0, 20.50.0 and 20.60.0, but I do not have adequate information regarding the changes within the releases since 20.20.0.5 to determine if any of them would allow BT mice to wake these HP laptops.

As it stands, it appears the bottom line is that HP is not providing the capability for BT mice to wake these computers when using the built-in Bluetooth adapter.

Thank you Jeet_Singh.

In searching the web, I am finding many persons are suffering from this same issue.  Many have suggested checking for related BIOS settings, which I have done.  When I checked on my HP computer, I found no BIOS settings related to this.

I am pleased to hear that this issue has been escalated to the HP R&D team, as I have been in touch with Intel and even tried their latest drivers (which are newer than the ones available on the HP website).  Intel believes that the problem rests with HP.

Do you have a case number for this issue that is now in the hands of the R&D team?  Without a case number it would be impossible to follow up and obtain status reports.

When the R&D team finds the solution, I will be most pleased to give you a high-five.

Thank you.

I have been out of town and just returned.

Thanks to both Jeet_singh and Riddle_Decipher for ensuring this issue has been escalated to the R&D team.  However, it has been over 72 hours and there has been no feedback from the R&D team.  Perhaps an update would be in order.

Thank you.

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

We got tied up with testing this scenario on another device and I'm glad you gave us a reminder,

I've sent another email to the R&D Team, to get an update on this situation, that said, I respect your patience more than you know,

however, this may take another 48hrs, and I will get back to you, ASAP

Another week has passed and there has been no feedback on this issue.  What has the R&D team found so far?

Please advise.  Thank you.

@Samurai7388,

Thanks for waiting,

After doing a extensive research and update from the R&D team, I see that this computer will not allow a Bluetooth device to wake the computer from sleep mode because of the power consumption requirements to keep the bluetooth radio activated.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than glad to assist you.

Hi Samurai7388,

maybe I have a solution for your problem. Google for a document named "bth_faq". It is from Microsoft. In this document you find some FAQ. Review this question: "How do I enable remote wake in Windows?"

In the answer you find some Registry entries to implement. And after reboot I was able to check the option "Device can wake up system" which was greyed out before in device settings of your bluetooth adapter. Then it will be able to wake the system.

Worked for me, good luck!

By the way: I dont own a HP notebook but was facing exact the issue as you did with a build-in BT module.

Let me know if it worked for you.
