Cannot save changes to 3rd party option rom management

I have a problem with the 3rd party UEFI settings of my HP Elitebook G1a 16.

When I press F3 during boot I can access the "3rd Party Option Rom Management" settings just fine.

I can also change the settings, however there is no way to save the changes. When I exit there is no "Save and exit?" dialogue as I would expect, instead it only asks me if I'm sure I want to exit. After a reboot all changes are reverted.

Is there a certain way the BIOS expects me to enter this 3rd party setup in order to save the changes? Or are they just for show?

I understand that you are able to access the 3rd Party Option ROM Management settings on your HP EliteBook, make changes, but the settings do not appear to save after reboot. I can certainly see why you would want those changes to persist, and I'll be glad to help look into this further.

To better understand the behaviour, could you kindly provide:

• Are you using the latest BIOS available from HP?
• Which specific setting(s) inside the 3rd Party Option ROM Management menu are you attempting to change?

In the meantime, kindly try the following checks:

1. Update the BIOS to the latest version available for your model from HP Support.
2. Load BIOS defaults: 
   • Turn off the PC.
   • Power it on and repeatedly tap F10 to enter BIOS.
   • Select Load Setup Defaults (or Restore Defaults).
   • Save and Exit.
   • Re-enter the 3rd Party Option ROM Management menu and test again.
3. After making changes within the Option ROM utility, look for any specific key combinations such as: 
   • F10 = Save
   • Ctrl + S
   • Esc and Save

Some third-party Option ROM utilities use their own save mechanism instead of the standard HP BIOS save prompt.

1. If available, temporarily disable Fast Boot in BIOS and test again.
2. Run an HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI test to verify there are no firmware-related issues.

I can confirm I am on the latest BIOS availabe from the HP website: 01.06.01

Unfortunately even after resetting the BIOS to its default settings, I still cannot save the settings from the 3rd Party Option ROM Management menu. Any of the settings I've tried to change, such as the "Power Button Override" (how long I have to hold the power button in order to shut off the device) reset upon reboot. Key combinations like F10 or Ctrl+S also do nothing. 

I suspect this menu is accessed in read-only mode. Even though I CAN toggle all settings, they cannot be saved.

Can you confirm that this behavior is unintended and I am supposed to be able to change the settings?

Thank you for testing the recommendations and confirming that you are already running the latest BIOS version (01.06.01).

Based on the behaviour you described, you should normally be able to save changes if the 3rd Party Option ROM Management utility is designed to support user-configurable settings.

 The fact that changes can be selected but do not persist after reboot, No Save Changes and Exit prompt appears ,Common save keys such as F10 or Ctrl + S have no effect.

and BIOS defaults reset did not resolve the issue. 

This does not appear to be normal behaviour if the settings are intended to be user-configurable. If a setting can be modified, those changes would generally be expected to save and persist after a reboot.
