I have a HP pro book 450 g2

I haven't used it in years and I just plugged it back in and the power button and caps lock button is blinking in unison like every half second.

And the charger port orange light is blinking quicker

I can't get it to start.

I took out the battery and tried starting it that way but it won't start no fans nothing. Put it with the battery in as well and try to charge it so it can start and nothing happens no fans nothing

Hi @FabPC

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

We understand the concern. Based on the behavior you described on the HP ProBook 450 G2, where the Caps Lock and power button are blinking together, the charging LED is blinking amber, and the notebook does not power on with or without the battery installed, the system may not be completing its power-on sequence.

Please try the following recommended checks:

Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).

Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge residual power.

Connect only the HP AC adapter (leave the battery disconnected) and check:

  • Does the charging LED remain solid or continue blinking?
  • Does the power button respond when pressed?

Inspect the AC adapter and power cable:

  • Ensure the adapter is the correct HP adapter for the ProBook 450 G2.
  • Verify the power connector is seated firmly in the notebook.

If memory modules are accessible:

  • Disconnect power.
  • Remove and reseat the memory modules.
  • If two modules are installed, test one module at a time in each slot.

Leave the notebook connected to AC power for at least 30 minutes, then try powering it on again.

Since the notebook has been unused for several years, it is also possible that the battery can no longer hold a charge. However, the system should normally attempt to power on with a working HP AC adapter even with the battery removed.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
