Hi All,
Just wondering who may have had an issue with their G8 series laptops not charging at random times and what can be done to mitigate / resolve the issue.
We have approx 30 or so of the G8 series machines (in both the x360 1030 G8 and x360 830 G8 variants) and for no apparent reason, the machines fail to charging at (what appears to be) random times.
From what i have been able to observe (and ascertain from remote users) is that the laptop discharges to approx 5%, and then powers off - even with the charger connected. Changing charger (to another HP branded charger) and / or port makes no difference. Typically I think most users have just powered their device back on until it has completely died and then restarted the machine again once it has drained to 0% when the unit has started charging again.
The workarounds I have found to be successful have been:
1. Power the unit back on and let it discharge to 0% and then reconnect the charger (highest perceived success rate)
2. Perform a hard reset (moderate success rate)
3. Disconnect the battery internally and then power on using the charger (last resort where I have had physical access to the device).
The machines have been reasonably up to date and with both Windows and BIOS updates have been applied regularly.
There have been a couple of devices that have done this multiple times - and possibly more where users have not reported issues and have managed to get it working through persistance.
Its not something I have been able to log a ticket for, as the hard reset/power drain to 0% have typically fixed the issue and its not something I can replicate but I have noted has occurred to varying users.
I dont believe it is a charger issue as I have taken the charger from one of the machines that had the issue and used it on my machine for approx 3 months without issue.
This is obviously not an optimal situation and am wondering whether anyone have any suggestions / recommendations?
Thanks In Advance
