Hi, I have WIndows 10 Pro 64 on a ProBook 440 G6, Samsung SSD. Now I want to transfer this SSD to my new EliteBook 640 G9 to continue with Windows 10.
I'm using Samsung Data Migration Tool to clone the system SSD, which has worked for me many times before. Just now, when I install the cloned SSD in the EliteBook, it won't boot from it. Why is that? It just says "BootDevice Not Found" and Error 3F0 on startup.
The cloned SSD works normally in the ProBook 440 G6, but not in the EliteBook 640 G9. Is this some kind of security thing, like you can't simply replace the SSD with a random one?
... all BIOSes are up-to-date.
Thanks for any help!

Hi:
I believe the problem is your cloned drive does not have the much newer drive controller driver you need for the drive to be detected in the 640 G9.
Notebooks with the Intel 11th, 12th and 13th gen core processors use a different storage controller driver.
A swap/clone like that will probably only work on a notebook with an Intel 10th gen core processor or older.
You won't be able to install the Intel storage controller driver the G9 uses in the G6 and re-clone the drive, at least I don't think you can.
You are going to have to install the programs and files you need on your new notebook.
If the NVMe SSD you want to transfer is faster/larger capacity than the one your G9 came with, then you can use the HP cloud recovery client to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that came with the 640 G9 on your G6's SSD.
