Good afternoon, I have an Elitebook 840 G7 and I'm looking for a docking station that will be used to run 2 monitors.  I've always used Lenovo products and the equipment was provided by my employer so I never had to worry about choosing equipment.

The price tag for the HP recommended docking station is more than I'm looking to spend so I'm wondering if the "universal" type of docking stations would suffice?  If so, what attributes am I looking for and is there a resource anywhere that would show which hp and non-hp docking stations are compatible?  I know I can go to each manufacturer's website but I was wondering if there was anything aggregated anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

Please use the following document to select a right one depending on your wallet. The last 10 pages or so is a list of compatible docks/machines.

Older business machines from vendors have docking ports. I have docks for Dell E series (can be used for few generations), Lenovo USB-3 docks which can be used for ANY machine with USB-3 port(s), and now HP dock. If you wish a cheap dock and don't need a whole world you would be able to buy on eBay.    I bought on eBay few Lenovo ThinkPad docks   (the one with 2 DVI ports)  only A$70 each and my children (at their homes) are very happy with it.

Regards.

Hi Banhien, I do not see the Elitebook 840 G7 in that documentation you provided.

However your second paragraph is very helpful.  I have a Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Gen 2 docking station and gave it a try and it works so far.  Anything to be concerned with or is this truly a universal docking station?

I never thought to try that initially because I thought it was only for Lenovo products!

HP has not updated the list, please use G6 as a guide

It is:

My children and grand children are using them on their Dell, Asus and HP machines now.

This is the dock I'm using:

The product specs are here.

I docked my HP using the thunderbolt cable.  So far, I'm able to extend my displays and the windows tray shows my laptop is charging.  In other words it appears to be acting as expected.  I just want to make sure that there aren't any potential issues I'm overlooking.
