EliteBook 840 G6 & 650 G9
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Due to a malfunctioning keyboard, I recently had my EliteBook 840 G6 replaced with an EliteBook 650 G9. The black box-like power supplies have different dimensions, but the jack that plugs into the laptops have the same colour blue rim at the tip.

Does this mean that the power supplies interchangeable?

Sounds like they have different wattage ratings, the bigger one is higher. Normally we can use higher capacity over lower capacity BUT not another way around.

The HP 840 G6 has few options, it may use 45W or 65W chargers  and the HP 850 G9 also has 2 options 45W and 65W. Please turn up-side-down to see part # for BOTH, we can work out from there before we can say yes or no.

Regards.

Thanks, BH.  The newer 650 G9 takes 19.5V and 3.33A, which is 65W.  The older 840 G6 takes 19.5V and 2.31A, which is 45W.

It looks like the newer laptop takes more power, so I can't treat the older power supply as a backup.

Thanks for the explanation.
