About 6 months ago, I had an issue where my laptop wouldn't charge. I gave the laptop for service (laptop is out of warranty, so I gave to a third party service provider) and it worked normally. For the past 3-4 days though, my laptop would suddenly shut off without a low battery notification or anything. It then only powers on when AC power is provided.
Here is the HP battery check result:
What do I do?

Hi @HarshInd,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Laptop (model 15s) is shutting off when the battery reaches around 59%, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to identify and resolve the problem.
Calibrate the Battery: Sometimes, the battery gauge can become inaccurate. To recalibrate the battery, follow these steps.
- Charge your laptop to 100% while it is turned off.
- Once fully charged, turn on the laptop and let it discharge naturally until it shuts off.
- Charge it again to 100% without turning it on.
- Repeat this process once more.
Check for Software Issues: It's possible that some background processes or software are causing excessive battery drain. To check for this.
- Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and review the processes that are consuming a lot of resources. End any unnecessary or suspicious processes.
- Make sure your operating system and drivers are up to date. HP regularly releases updates that can improve battery performance.
Check Power Settings: Make sure your power settings are configured correctly to avoid any aggressive power-saving measures.
- Go to the Control Panel (or Settings on Windows 10/11) and open "Power Options."
- Select the power plan you're currently using and click on "Change plan settings."
- Adjust the settings to your preference, ensuring that the laptop doesn't turn off automatically at a certain battery percentage.
Battery Health Check: Most laptops have built-in diagnostic tools for checking battery health. HP laptops often come with the HP Support Assistant application. Look for this utility and use it to run a battery health check.
Replace the Battery: If the battery is old or damaged, it might not be holding a charge properly. In such cases, replacing the battery might be necessary.
Overheating: Overheating can cause laptops to shut down unexpectedly. Make sure the laptop's cooling system is clean and not obstructed. Use compressed air to remove dust from the vents.
Malware Check: Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to ensure there are no malware or viruses causing excessive battery usage.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
