Currently struggling to understand my options for docks on my work issued 845 G7. As far as I can tell from reading the specs it has 2 "USB Type-C® 3.1 Gen 2(Alt mode), DisplayPort™ 1.2" ports on it. From what I understand that rules out the more expensive thunderbolt docks, and I should instead focus on the USB-C ones, such as the USB-C G2 or G5. I am a bit confused with these docks, because they seem to suggest you can connect multiple monitors at 4k 60hz, but wouldn't that massively exceed the limit of the USB-C connector? If it relies on you enabling the DP alt mode does this then prevent you from using (or fully using) the other features of the dock such as ethernet, USB A etc? Sorry for all the questions, I've never used USB-C for anything but charging before so all of this is new to me.
What I am hoping to be able to plug into my dock is:
2 x USB devices (keyboard + mouse combo, webcam) all USB 2.0
1 x Ethernet
1 x 1080p 60hz monitor
1 x 4k monitor at max refresh possible (minimum of 60)
Power
If a single USB-C connection cannot support that I can use 2 ports on the laptop instead, one for the USB, smaller monitor, ethernet and power as that should be trivial over USB-C and then for the main monitor. In that case what would offer better performance for the main monitor, the HDMI 2.0 port (currently allowing me to run 4k60hz) or would one of the USB-C ports dedicated to that monitor support any higher refresh rate?

HP has few docking stations which support Elitebook 845 G7 machines. Please use the following list
https://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04168358
to see which one is the right one for your pocket/budget and/or future usage and make decision. The HP USB-C G5 dock is a good starting point.
Regards.

Thats the link I was using before that got me a bit confused, for example under the HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 it lists the supported resolutions. As the 845 G7 has DP 1.2 it appears it supports triple 4k monitors (with one running at 30hz) in multi function mode, or all 3 at full 60hz in High Res alt mode. This would require almost 40Gbit/s which would surely exceed the DP 1.2 provided by the USB-C port (which I believe would cap out around 17Gbps)? Looking further it appears the G5s supported resolutions are more accurate and are closer to the performance I would expect out of a USB-C port with DP 1.2. Could it be a mistake in the doc?
If I was to use one of the docks in DP alt mode would that then affect the other functionalities of the hub (USB, ethernet and power)?
