Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have someone connected HP USB-C G5 Dock to EliteBook 840 G3? I'm not interested in powering the notebook from dock, just to use Monitor and keyboard/mouse. Can I directly plug it in USB-C port, or maybe to USB-A via USB-A to USB-C adapter? Can notebook be damaged if I plug it or it just not be recognized ?

EliteBook 840 G3 and EliteBook 840 G4 machines are NOT compatible with the HP USB-C Gen 5 dock, you won't get proper video out or no video out at all.

EliteBook 840 G5, G6 ... machines are OK. You can use single cable option on EliteBook 840 G5 mating with USB-C Gen 5 dock.

Regards.
