Product: EliteBook 840 G4
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The USB Type-C port does not seem to be charging the laptop (the batterry icon does not show any charging activitiy).

 

Is is necessary to activate this feature before it can be used?

The USB-C port on this system does not support charging the notebook, you will need to use the round barrel charger.  The USB-C port can charge external devices such as a cell phone or camera, and provides data transfer.
