Migrated from Lifebook 9470 (win10) to EliteBook 840 (Win 11). So far all seems fine. However the fingerprint sensor is not working.

I can neither see the HW in BIOS setup to activate it. Nor can I see it within compmgmt.msc. and obviously not within Windows account management where the option (windows Hello) is not available.

Installing drivers from HP homepage https://support.hp.com/de-de/drivers/hp-elitebook-840-g5-notebook-pc/18491271  reboots etc. did not solve the problem either.  The fingerprint sensor is not available.

What am I doing wrong? How can I make the sensor visible in BIOS and make sure the correct driver is installed....

@ASrock

Not all HP 840 G11 machines have that option. Did you buy Fingerprint sensor option for your machine ? Manual says "To verify that your computer supports fingerprint reader sign-in, select the Search icon in the taskbar, type Sign-in options in the search box, and then select the Sign-on options app. If Fingerprint recognition is not listed as an option, then your notebook does not include a fingerprint reader."

Sounds like your machine does NOT have this option.

Regards.

Hi banhien

The  specification Document from HP it says Fingerprint sensor. On the notebook, right hand I can see the fingerprint area... unless it is a fake sensor...last but not least it is a G5 and I do not think they had this approach that you need to "order" a sensor...

Any other ideas?

to your question... Going to sign-in options will show that fingerprint option is not available and that windows did not find a windows hello compatible sensor.... However I do see the sensor pad on the notebook panel. Unless it is just a fake blind cover...

Anything I would be able to do with Windows-Hello to get this fixed?
