You will need to manually install the driver for the fingerprint sensor.

The fingerprint sensor will be labeled as an Unknown device with a hardware ID of USB\VID_138A&PID_003C.

Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58900.exe

Run the driver file.  It will most likely not automatically install the unknown device.

Go to the device manager, click on the unknown USB\VID_138A&PID_003C device.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers option,' and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp58900.

Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

If you post the hardware ID's for the other devices that need drivers, I will post the links to those as well.

Hello Paul! I was hoping you would reply to this question. I saw where you had given this same driver to other people when I searched. This driver is one that I gave already tried. I just installed it again and the driver installs correctly, windows hello recognizes it, but when I go to setup my fingerprint, the sensor does not respond at all. I'm not 100% sure the sensor is good as this is a used computer. I have purchased a replacement sensor just in case.

You're very welcome.

Before ruling the fingerprint sensor as defective, try the W10 HP SimplePass fingerprint sensor software and see if that works to enroll your fingerprint instead of the Windows Hello app.

OK It doesn't work with that program either. Is there anything else that you suggest checking? I was able to identify and install the rest of the drivers for the unknown devices by looking them up like you suggested. Thank you for that!

You're very welcome.

If that program didn't work either, unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

OK, I have a replacement sensor here I will probably install another one and see what happens. This computer was DOA when I received it. The hard drive caddy was missing, and the hard drive had come unhooked in shipping. I purchased and installed the hard drive caddy, and there's no telling if it is even plugged in under there.  Only one way to find out! Thank you for the help!

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Good luck with your notebook renovation project.

Alright I replaced the fingerprint sensor with a different one, without any change. Please let me know if you think of another troubleshooting method.

Thanks

I watched a few videos before posting on this site. I had gone into the services under the log on tab of the biometric services. I had checked a box to allow service to interact with desktop. A video told me to do this, and it did not fix my problem. I went back and unchecked the box, like it was to begin with, and everything now works! Thank you so much!
