After extensive testing and troubleshooting, I've identified that the HP EliteBook x G1a laptop (Windows 11, 25H2, OEM AMD Video, Chipset drivers) crashes or experiences unexpected shutdowns consistently when put into Windows 11 sleep mode when the HP > System Control > Performance Control = Smart Sense.  I can consistently reproduce this behavior.

This is also evident in the Windows 11 Event Viewer by a flurry of repeated Kernel-Processor-Power (Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power) and UserModePowerService log entries under Windows Logs > System.  These entries immediately cease when the HP Performance Control is set = Performance.

I trust that HP will address this bug in future drivers.  Please advise of the appropriate protocol for submitting a format HP bug incident with support details, logs, etc.

Also experiencing the same/similar issues with the G1a (395 max 64GB)

I'm getting random entire system freezes (Its not showing any BSOD screen) which eventually show a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error. Going to try setting to the performance control mode to High Performance and see if they still occur.

If I manually switch the EliteBook X G1a to Performance power scheme, the Event Viewer > System messages will subside however the laptop will run in the highest power consumption setting, reduce battery duration and the unit runs hot.  If I have the laptop in sleep mode and plug it into the HP G6 dock, it will crash and reboot Windows 11 to the login prompt.  It appears I need to keep the laptop disconnected from AC power when putting it into modern sleep mode or boot the unit when connected to AC power to run it in performance mode.  With all HP OEM drivers, it does not gracefully handle power mode switching with all current drivers and BIOS.

Unfortunately these issues persist.  When I leave the EliteBook X G1a on AC power overnight it repeatedly crashes (unexpected shutdowns) approximately hourly while being unattended.  There are no indicators in the Event Viewer on than it seems to be crashes and rebooting itself consistently overnight.  When I arrive to login in the morning, it logs in and no previous applications are open because of a reboot.

I had similar issue  random reboots on power and at least once computer had issues waking up from sleep.

1 week after 25H2 and computer was on AC power and after sometime went to sleep and never came back.

none of the troubleshooting worked HP advised to send the laptop for repair .

Got notification that part MAINBOARD needs to be replaced and backorder is 1 month.

Sorry to hear this.  This is my first time buying a HP laptop and experiencing first hand such poor quality control issues.  HP authorized for my G1a to be returned for offsite service before the holidays.  It's currently in repair status with an estimated delivery date of 1/8/26.  Based on the level of troubleshooting I had done, I'm certain it's a hardware issue -- likely the mainboard.  I had reimaged it so many times and tried every software driver version available.  As long as they don't try to factory image it and return it, as long as it works, I'm good.  Only had it for a month and it's been behaving this way since day 1.

good luck with the repair ..don't be surprised if you see your delivery date pushed back .

I  removed my M.2 drive before sending to repair, HP technical support advised it can be done. Just make sure you mention this in form.

Thanks.  Same to you.  When given the option, I opted not to keep my M.2 nvme drive.  The drive had been reimaged and the system has been too unreliable to put any important data on it.  Also if they need to test it for any reason to determine whether it too needs to be replaced, I wanted to eliminate any excuses.  However long it takes, I just want it back, operational like this ancient Dell XPS 13 I'm using as a backup.  These thing is ancient yet has never had any of these problems.  As much as the G1a exceeds almost any other laptop in its class processor-wise, my first HP laptop experience has been a disappointing one.  I had considered a Lenovo but it was more expensive but less capable.  I suppose that's the price to pay for a reliable, quality laptop.
