Hi everyone,

I've been lokking for this issue in this forum, but couldn't solve it.
I have an Elitebook x360 1040 G6 and since 3 days, a boot message that the Intel Engine Management firmware is corrupted.

I tried the update from Windows, I tried from the Bios.
It almost worked, it took 10 minutes for the update to be completed, with the step where the Intel Management Engine firmware was updating from 12.0.94.2380 to 12.1.1.1022..., but finally going back to the old actual, bios version, 1.27.00

I still can access to Windows by entering the setup menu, choosing F6 (Intel ME), but with no Audio, and no multi screen...

I tried to change the CMOS battery, but couldn't find it !
I unplugged the battery for 30 min, pished the power button for 60 secondes, etc...

I'm struggling with this issue, and it semms that I'm not the only one.

What can I do ?

Thanks for your help !

Hi,

This looks more serious than a normal Windows driver issue. If the boot message says that the Intel Management Engine firmware is corrupted, and the ME firmware update appears to complete but then goes back to the old version, the issue may be related to the BIOS/ME firmware region itself.

I would suggest the following checks:

  1. Make sure the laptop is connected to AC power during any BIOS or firmware update.
  2. If BitLocker is enabled, suspend BitLocker before updating BIOS/firmware.
  3. Download the latest BIOS and Intel Management Engine firmware only from the official HP support page for the exact EliteBook x360 1040 G6 model/product number.
  4. Install the latest BIOS first, restart, then try the Intel Management Engine firmware update again as Administrator from Windows.
  5. Enter BIOS Setup and load BIOS defaults, then save and exit.
  6. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI and check if any system board or firmware-related failure is reported.

Since you mentioned that audio and external display/multi-screen are also not working, this may confirm that the Intel ME/chipset firmware issue is affecting several hardware functions.

I would not recommend using third-party Intel ME firmware tools or unofficial firmware files, as they can make the system board unusable.

If the official HP BIOS/ME firmware update still fails or keeps reverting, the system may need HP service-level firmware recovery or system board reprogramming/service.

Please share the exact product number and the full boot error message if possible, so others can guide you more accurately.

Hope this helps.
