Hello,

Owner of an EliteBook x G1a (OLED, 64go, 1tb), I'm experiencing colored dots that appear randomly across the entire screen surface at certain times, and only on the laptop screen, not the external screen. I've observed this on two different G1a computers, so I don't think it's a matter of bad luck. Does anyone have any leads on the cause ? I've reinstalled the drivers multiple times, whether with files provided by HP or those from AMD, and I've also taken care to uninstall them beforehand using the AMD tool or with DDU, but nothing works. I've also noticed them on Fedora. I'm very disappointed because otherwise I'm really very satisfied with this computer.

Did HP ever provide you with a solution for the problem with colored dots on your EliteBook x G1a OLED screen?

I would like to buy this model but I have seen a few complaints about the OLED screen on this model.

I'd recommend staying away from this one. I'm now on my second unit and both of them had the same problem with wandering pixels on the screen. That's definitely not a coincidence at this point.

It's really frustrating because the laptop is actually excellent otherwise. The build quality is solid, and I was specifically looking for a MacBook alternative without macOS - this really fits the bill. The keyboard is way better than MacBook too. Only thing is the trackpad isn't quite at MacBook level, and the display is pretty reflective with weak brightness, but those aren't defects.

The real issues show up over time - not just the pixel problems, but also random freezes with no clear cause.

Starting to wonder why these laptops drop in price so quickly though, including the ZBooks g1a for exemple which are around €2300 in Europe right now, which seems suspicious and not logical. (Station de travail portable HP ZBook Ultra G1a - HP Store France)

HP's customer service in Europe has been decent though. Initially they offered a repair, but I insisted on a replacement since this is a brand new product. they're now discussing a refund with me.

Such a shame because everything else about this laptop is spot on for what I needed.

Many thanks for your reply.

I had to return 2 HP ZBook Ultra 14 G1a units due to repeated BSOD or restarts without warning.

I don't need the hassle of the possibility of going through that again.

Pity, though, given as you say when these laptops work they are great.

And I cannot find something of similar spec with a decent AMD processor available (and decent support).
