This brand new 830 G10 appeared dead just after unboxing and wouldn't power on without the USB-C power adapter connected. After connecting the power adapter and waiting a minute it booted so at first I thought the battery was completely dead - strange for a newly delivered laptop but ok (usually they have at least 50% "storage" charge). After having charged it fully and prepared with latest updates it was disconnected and put aside. Approx 2 weeks later, the laptop wouldn't turn on again without the AC adapter. After connecting it it immeidtaley powered up and showed over 60% charge. Immediately disconnecting the USB-C power adapter it would still show 60% and hold the charge normally (it was used for over an hour and the charge was still around 40-50%). Once powered off and left off overnight it won't power on unless the AC charger is reconnected even briefly. However if you power off the laptop and power it on again shortly after it does power on. Something related to the charging or power circuit must be uncalibrated or defective as this is not a normal behavior. Before opening a case does anyone have suggestions?

try using BatMon to test the battery and monitor the charging /discharging
You may have a bad battery.
This is a great tool for your kit....

Hi RIck, thanks - will look into it. At the moment I have left the laptop discharge while on (disabling suspend/standby) and let it recharge fully and the discharge time seemed regular as predicted. Someone is using it so if it happens again I'll probably open a case as the battery or protection circuit must be faulty.
