Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

I'd like to share my findings about an USB-C issue, which I encountered two times on my Elitebook (10 months old).
The issue symptom is that USB sticks are no longer recognized at any USB port and other USB devices (SSD, card reader, mobile phone) are refused with a HP (not Windows !) message that the device exceeds the power limit of the USB-C interface (message in German is "USB Type-C Anschluss: Das angeschlossene Gerät überschreitet die Leistungsgrenze des USB-C Anschlusses").

The first time, a Firmware update offered via Windows Update fixed the issue.

The second time, this did not work. I suspect that the firmware update was downloaded but not properly installed on the respective device.

The solution was:

- press ESC while rebooting the computer and enter the system start menu

- select the option to update system and device firmware

In my case, about 4 firmware packages have been installed. After the next boot, the USB interfaces worked correctly again.

Hope this might help you. Best regards.
