Work at a University  that pretty much only uses HP machines and little while back we have started to get lots of issues with our EliteBook 840 G8 machines together with G2 and G5 docking stations.

Either losing network or that the docking stations stop charging the computer or even that it completely disconnects the docking station.

Temporary fixes can be to Reboot everything, power reset the computer or do a rollback on the Bios. seems to be related to bios version 01.11.00 as rollback seems to help until Bios is updated again.

Or just change to another (not hp) docking station and it works fine.

In the Bios description there are some notes

"- Fixes an issue which causes the system to wake a second time after Wake-on-LAN (WOL) occurs while connected to an HP USB-C Dock G5 or HP USB-C/A Dock G2. "

But seems like it is causing other issues with them instead.

I have the HP EliteBook 840 G8 (14") and my userbase is also experiencing the same issues (but not consistently).

HP Universal (G1) Docking Station is also potentially affected. Dell WD15 dock may also be affected (inconclusive).

Other non-HP Docking Stations seem to work fine, and when the devices are not charging, I can also take a USB-C cable and plug the other end into a GaN 65w charger brick for USB PD, and it'll still charge the unit properly on that cable.
